APPLYING GOD'S PROMISES

The Bible contains countless wonderful promises of God that we can apply to our lives today. One of God's promises that we can apply today is in Jeremiah 29:11, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord. 'They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'" God has a wonderful plan for each of us, and His plan is for our good and not to harm us. He gives us a future and hope in this unpredictable and unstable world. God is capable of giving us a future and hope because He is a sovereign God. In Him, nothing is impossible because He created everything from out of nothing. He knows the future and the end. He is the author of our life. He knows what is best for us even though there are times when His plans in our lives do not make sense in our own understanding. Or, there are times when we do not know His plans in our lives. However, God promised us that He has a wonderful plan for our lives.

But there is one thing that we need to understand in order to enjoy God's promise in our lives: We need to trust and surrender our control to God. We cannot enjoy God's wonderful plan in our lives if we are not trusting or walking in His ways. Many people claim that they do not understand God's plan for their lives, but the reason they do not understand God's plan for their lives is that they are not willing to give up control of their lives. We need to pray to God to guide us every day and completely trust Him. In my own experience, I always pray every day for God to guide me and help me to make decisions. When there is something that I do not understand, I always ask God for guidance and wisdom. And I always ask God to make my desire the same as His desire so that I can be in a place where He wants me to be. In other words, I am completely dependent on Him, and this is how I can apply God's promises in my life.

Let us not be afraid to relinquish our control to God, for by allowing Him to control our lives, He is giving us hope and a future that this world cannot take away.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How can I apply God's promises in my life? Why is it that giving my control to God leads me to apply God's promises in my life? What is God teaching or showing me in today's devotion?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, You know the past, the present, and the future. You know my future; therefore, my hope is in you. Please help me relinquish my control over my life and let you control it so that I may enjoy your promises. Please guide me to your ways, for your ways lead to hope and life. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
