COMPASSIONATE FATHER

Writer's picture: Danny DomingoDanny Domingo

In Psalm 103:13-14, David wrote, "The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust." David described how God relates to us as His created being. Although God created us out of the dust and breathed life into us, God created us with love and compassion. God did not create us like a machine with no intimate relationship with Him. Sadly, many people have a misunderstanding of God, believing that He created them but left them to figure out how to survive on their own. They believe that God does not have an emotional connection with them. However, this is far from the truth that the Bible teaches. God cares for all His created beings. God knows that we are just but dust. He knows that we are weak because of our limited understanding and physical abilities. As a result, God cares about us. Although we rebel against Him, He continues to pursue us to restore our relationship with Him because God understands that we cannot live without Him.

When we stumble and fall, our God is always there to pick us up and guide us to the right path. He is always there to provide for our needs. When our strengths are gone, He carries us through. When we are discouraged, He is always there to encourage us with His Word. When we are dry spiritually, He gives us the hunger to seek Him. Our God is always active in our lives more than we realize. He is always working in the background of our lives, making sure that His purpose will be accomplished in our lives. It is true that we have a Heavenly Father who loves us with compassion. No matter how we try to run away from Him, we cannot escape His presence. When Jonah deliberately chose to run away from God's will, God used a whale to bring Him back and lead him to the right path. God did not give up on Jonah, even when Jonah decided to rebel against Him. When we were lost in our sins, God sent our Lord Jesus to rescue us. God has a tender heart toward us.

The God who created the universe and everything in it is our Heavenly Father. He loves us compassionately and treats us tenderly. Our Heavenly Father is not the same as the fathers of this world. He is perfect and cares about us as His children.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Why is it important to know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me compassionately and deals with me tenderly? Can I escape God's presence even when I try to rebel against Him? Why does God never give up on me?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for loving me compassionately and dealing with me tenderly. Thank you for never giving up on me, even when I am ready to give up. I am truly secure in you. I praise you as my Heavenly Father. Thank you for accepting me as your precious child. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
