DEALING WITH UNEXPECTED SITUATIONS

Psalm 94:16-19 says, "Who will protect me from the wicked? Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Unless the Lord had helped me, I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out, 'I am slipping!' but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer." God, who created the Heavens and the earth and everything in it, is more than capable of protecting His people. God knows our limitations as human beings, and we have Satan and his demons trying to destroy us. John 10:10 says, "The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (God) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." When we are in danger of slipping away (dying), God can rescue us with His unfailing love. However, God has the final decision if He allows us to die on this earth physically and be alive with Him in Heaven forever. Life on this earth ends, but the soul lives on forever. As we continue to live on this earth, we can be overwhelmed with our unexpected situations but God is always there to comfort us by giving us hope and joy.

Some situations are beyond our understanding, and we desperately need God's help to rescue us. When Jesus and His disciples were on the boat in the Sea of Galilee, an unexpected storm came, and their boat was about to capsize. In an instant, they were suddenly in a life-and-death situation. Their only way out was our Lord Jesus. So they woke up Jesus with fear and trembling, and Jesus got up and rebuked the wind. Immediately, the storm stopped, and everything went back to normal (Mark 4:35-41). When we are confronted by sudden situations that catch us completely by surprise, we can cry out to our Lord Jesus for help. God has our lives in his hands, and he is the one who determines our future because He has the ultimate authority over our lives.

Let us remember that God is never surprised by our unexpected situations because He knows the past, the present, and the future. This is why He knows how to comfort and rescue us in our unexpected situations.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What should I do when facing a sudden situation? Why can I trust God in my unexpected situation? What is one thing that God is teaching me through today's devotion?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, You are my God who can rescue me from unexpected situations. Although I can be surprised, you are not because You know the past, the present, and the future. Please help me trust in you and not let fear grip me, for you are the God of impossibilities. You can make things out of nothing, just like how you created the world and the universe. Please give me direction on what to do and provision for my needs. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
