Election is around the corner. Starting tomorrow night, we will witness once again who will be the next president of the United States, and this will affect all of us. Many things are at stake in tomorrow's election: the economy, safety, border security, gender fluidity, woke ideology, freedom of speech, religious liberty, parents' rights at school, education, abortion, immigration, and other concerns. The country has been divided between the democratic and republican parties, but the question that we need to ask ourselves is, "What is my responsibility as a believer of the Lord Jesus Christ?" We have to remind ourselves that both VP Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump are not perfect. They will rule this country according to what they believe is best for the country, regardless of what we believe or think. They are often guided by their ideologies on how to govern the government. As a result, we need to pick a candidate that aligns with our biblical beliefs and views. As American citizen Christians, we have a responsibility to vote and pray for this country that God has blessed us with. Our vote matters in God's eyes because God commanded us to follow the authority of the land. Romans 13:1-2 says, "Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished."
Before we vote, we must learn about the two presidential candidates. The best way to do this is to watch each candidate's campaign on YouTube and pay attention to their plans regarding issues that concern us. Disregard the rhetoric against the other candidate, but pay attention to what they are saying about the economy, the safety of the country, immigration, and other issues. Do not rely on the news outlets to feed us the information about the candidates because they are pretty biased. For example, Fox News is pro-Trump, and CNN, NBC, ABC, PBS, CBS, and other news outlets are pro-Harris. The best thing that we can ever do is to pray for wisdom on who to vote. We must trust God in directions where God is leading us on who to vote. God already knows who is going to win the election, but God wants us to do our part in the election. If we want to have a better country, we must vote and do our part in praying for our nation.
Linda and I already voted through the early voting, and we are glad that we have done our part. We will trust God in the election result. In the meantime, we are praying for a safe and fair election and continued blessings for the United States of America.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Why is it important for me to vote? What can I do to get to know the candidates' views on certain issues? Why is it important to pray for wisdom before voting?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, I pray for the United States of America as we go through another presidential election. Please help me do my part and vote. Guide me on who to vote for and help me to continue to pray for this country that you have blessed me with. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
