Today is election day, and after all the presidential campaigns and the media coverage of debates, it will soon be determined who will be the next president for the next four years. Voting is a freedom of expression in this country. We vote to express the values that we believe in, whether everybody agrees with them or not. It is our opportunity to cast our votes for candidates who are aligned with our values. The Bible also talks about election, but it refers to our salvation. 1 Thessalonians 1:4 says, "We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people." The word chosen means election. God has elected us to be his own people. Ephesians 1:4 mentions when God has elected us, "Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes." It is incredible to know that God has chosen us to be His children even before He created the world. In other words, God knows us even when we do not exist. As a result, no matter the result of the election today, God will continue to be our Lord and protector because we are His children.
Because God elected (chose) us to be His children before He created the world, we will always be secure in Him, regardless of the outcome of the presidential election. According to the American Psychological Association, 72 percent of people were concerned that the election results could lead to violence, and 56% said that it could end democracy in the country. People are very concerned about the future of this country, especially its economy and security. No matter how we feel about the election today, we must remember that God is always in control, no matter who won the election. At the end of today, our ultimate trust is in our Lord Jesus and not in the government. Once we cast our votes, we rest in God for the result. When we find ourselves anxious in today's election, let us give our anxiety to God because He cares about us. 1 Peter 5:7 says, "Cast (give) all your anxiety on Him (Jesus) because He cares for you."
We are thankful that God elected (chose) us to be His children before He created the world. As a result, we are always secure in Him because He cares about us. Let us continue to trust God in the result of today's election.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) When did God elect (chose) me to be His child? What should be my attitude in today's election? Where do I ultimately put my trust?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for electing me to be your child before you made the world. I will always be secure in you, no matter the result of the presidential election. I pray that today's election will be safe and fair. Thank you for the freedom to vote in this country. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
