When our Heavenly Father saved us from our sin and gave us eternal life through our genuine faith in our Lord Jesus, it is not meant for us to figure out how to live a Christian life on our own. Our Heavenly Father sent the Holy Spirit to teach and help us learn to live a Christian life. We cannot live a Christian life without the God the Holy Spirit in us. As He forever lives in us, He is the one who gives us the power to do the will of our Heavenly Father in this world. In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." When it was time for the disciples to receive the Holy Spirit, they were all together praying. While they were praying, suddenly, the Holy Spirit came upon them as tongues of fire. Each of them started to speak in different languages that they did not know to tell the wonderful works of God. As the people from different parts of the world heard their languages, many believed what the disciples were proclaiming. (Acts 1-2).
Although we do not see the Holy Spirit in us, we can feel His presence in our lives. He is the one that convicts us when we sin. He is the one that gives us the desire to pray and read the Word of God. He is the one that prompts our hearts to do what is right even when no one sees us. And when we sin against our Heavenly Father, He is grieved in our hearts. Ephesians 4:30 says, "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption."
As believers of our Lord Jesus Christ, we need to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to live a Christian life. We have the Holy Spirit in us when we are doubting, struggling with our sin, and confused about what to do. We can ask the Holy Spirit to give us the power, the wisdom, the direction when we need them.
Ask yourself these questions: Why did my Heavenly Father send the Holy Spirit to dwell in me? Who helps and gives me the power to do the will of my Heavenly Father?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to dwell in me to empower me to do your will. I admit that I cannot live a Christian life apart from the power of the Holy Spirit. Please continue to teach and help me surrender my life to you through the power of the Holy Spirit. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
