GOD IS TEACHING US TO RELY ON HIM

Writer: Danny DomingoDanny Domingo

There were more than 1.5 million Israelites, including women and children, when God led them to leave Egypt. However, they were not alone because God was with them. Psalm 105:39 says, "The Lord spread a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness." God was determined to protect the Israelites in the desert as He guided them to the promised land. As God led them to the desert, they ended up in the valley in front of the Red Sea. It so happened that Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued the Israelites with his chariots to force them to return to Egypt. It was in front of the Red Sea that the Egyptians caught up with the Israelites. It was a perfect place for the Egyptians to bring great disaster to the Israelites because the Israelites were trapped between big mountains, and in front of them was the Red Sea. However, God provided a pillar of fire between the Israelites, and the Egyptians couldn't come near the Israelites. God then commanded Moses to touch the water of the Red Sea with his staff, and the Red Sea split into two, and the Israelites passed through the Red Sea on the dry ground. Once the Israelites passed through the Red Sea, God lifted the cloud of fire so that the Egyptians could continue to pursue the Israelites through the Red Sea. God then stopped splitting the water, and many of Pharaoh's chariots drowned.

Moses and the Israelites were very vulnerable against the Egyptians. When they were trapped in the valley in front of the Red Sea, they could have been captured by the Egyptians easily if God had not intervened. Many times, we have been in situations where, without God's intervention, we would be lost and not know what to do. God allowed the Israelites to go through the valley of the Red Sea to teach them to rely on Him. Similarly, God allows us to go through impossible situations to teach us to rely on Him. Let us remember that God is faithful to take care of us, but it does not mean that He will not allow us to go through situations that are beyond our understanding. God desires for us to grow in our trust in Him. When we are at our limits, God can show His power in us and allow us to experience Him in a very special and powerful way so that we can appreciate Him more.

God holds the Israelites in the palm of His sovereign hands, and so we are. God is the strength of our lives, and we can only learn that when we experience life beyond our understanding. Let us trust God in our impossibilities because God is with us. God will accomplish His purposes in our lives.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What happens when the Israelites are trapped in the valley in front of the Red Sea? What should I do when I am in an impossible situation? Why does God allow me to go through situations that are beyond my understanding?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, I praise you for holding my life in your caring hands. Thank you for your constant encouragement to grow my trust in you. Please help me to completely trust you in my impossibilities, for you are faithful to fulfill your plans and purposes in my life. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
