GOD SUSTAINS ALL HIS CREATION

Writer's picture: Danny DomingoDanny Domingo

Colossians 1:15-17 says, "Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together." God created the whole universe, and everything in it through our Lord Jesus Christ, and our Lord Jesus Christ holds everything together. It means that nothing can exist without His power. God is the source of everything. He is the source of every energy, such as the sun, wind, geothermal (heat), and hydrothermal (hot springs and geysers), nuclear (atoms). The power of our Lord Jesus Christ is the essential force that brings everything to life and allows it to function. Before creating us, God first created the world to provide everything we need so that we can live. We exist because God sustains our lives every day.

Since God created and sustains our living being through His power, which works throughout the universe, we are designed to depend on Him for our sustenance. Jesus said these words to His disciples, "That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are?" (Matthew 6:25-26). If God cares for all birds and animals in creation, He will certainly care for us because we are made in His image. Whatever we need today, let us humbly ask our Heavenly Father to provide for us. Let us not worry because God will provide according to His wonderful plan in our lives.

God knows all our physical needs. He expects us to rely on Him for everything we need because He created us to depend on Him. We cannot live another day without God sustaining our physical bodies. As God continues to care for the birds, He will certainly care for us, for we are more special to Him than the birds and animals of this earth.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who sustains the world's energy every day? Do I completely trust God that He will provide everything that I need? Should I worry about my daily needs?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, Thank you for teaching me today that you are the creator and sustainer of everything this world needs to exist. You are the one who sustains my life. I breathe because you supply the oxygen I need. Please help me trust you with everything that I need and not worry, for you are faithful. I lift up my specific needs to you today (mention your specific needs to God). In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
