GOD SUSTAINS US IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORM

Psalm 65:5-8 says, "You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas. You formed the mountains by your power and armed yourself with mighty strength. You quieted the raging oceans with their pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations. Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders. From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy." At around 5:45am yesterday morning, I was awakened by the tornado siren in our area, and around 6am, I could hear a strong wind, heavy rain, lightning, and thunder coming upon us, and next thing I knew, I could hear water flowing down our living room. The power went out, and so when I looked up our ceiling with my flashlight, our skylight (5ft x 5ft) was gone. Everything happened so fast that I was shocked at what was happening. I immediately prayed for wisdom and direction on what to do. The Lord reminded me that I had a big tarp in the garage, so I got it to cover the sofa and trapped the water in the middle of the living room. Linda and I waited in our bathroom until the wind and rain subsided.

I praise God that our roof was the only damage from the big windstorm. It could have been worse, but I am in awe of nature's power. No matter how strong nature is, our God is more powerful than it because he created it. As a result, we can rest in the power of our God in the middle of the storm. Even if the storm destroys everything that we have, God can still sustain us. We have seen tornadoes destroy many towns and houses on the news, but God is still in control. After the storm had passed, we didn't have power until 1am this morning, but Linda and I were at peace and thankful. I praise God that we never once complained because we both rested in God's power. We understood that we are always at the hand of God's grace, love, and mercy.

God allowed this disaster to happen, but he sustained us. I pray that we will always rest in the power, grace, mercy, and love of our Heavenly Father.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How can I have peace in the middle of the storm? If I believe that God is in control in the middle of my storm, how should I live my life? What should be my attitude?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, You created the world and everything in it. The natures roar as a result of sin, but I praise you because you are preparing a new heaven and earth for me. This world that I am in right now is just temporary. I thank you for sustaining me through my storm. Please help me to rest in your power, grace, mercy, and love. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
