Psalm 12 relates to our society today. King David wrote this Psalm when the poor or the innocent were oppressed with lies, false flattery, and arrogance. Many compromised their integrity to succeed in their careers, pursue their dreams, and gain whatever they wanted. Success over godliness, wealth over integrity, and happiness and excitement over God's ways. All the while, the poor or the innocent were being taken advantage of. The truth was compromised, and no one knew what the truth was anymore. People did not know right and wrong; whatever they thought was true was the truth. The feelings became the source of truth. King David knew that God was the only hope if the human race was ever to survive. He prayed in Psalm 12:2, "Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts."
When a society no longer has an absolute truth, society will crumble and fall apart. The only hope is the Truth of the Word of God. King David wrote, "The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times (Psalms 12:6)." All lies are exposed through the Word of God. If we want to know the truth, we must know the Word of God because the Word of God is incorruptible. We can know the truth by reading and studying our Bible. God gave us the Bible to know and believe in our Lord Jesus to be saved from our sins and walk in His ways.
Although our society today is full of lies and deception, we have the Word of God that can guide us to the truth. We must read and study our Bible to protect our minds from the lies and deceptions of this world. King David closed this Psalm by acknowledging God, "Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked wander freely, and evil is praised throughout the land. (Psalm 12:7-8)."
Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully and meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speaks to you). How can I know the truth? Why did God provide me with a Bible? How can I protect myself from the lies and deceptions of this world?
Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you for teaching me today that your Word is the source of truth. I thank you for providing me with a Bible. Please help me read and study your Word daily so that I may know your ways and be protected from the lies of this world. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
