JESUS CAST OUT DEMONS IN GERASENE

Right after Jesus arrived on the other side of the Sea of Galilee, a man possessed by 6,000 demons confronted Jesus. The demon-possessed man's name was legion. Legion is a term for a military unit with 6,000 soldiers. The man has been tormented by the demons and lived in the surrounding tomb. People tried to subdue him by putting chains on him, but he was very powerful that he broke the chains. As a result, people were afraid of him. While alone in the tomb, he cried out day and night, cutting himself with stone. When he saw Jesus, he shouted loudly, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In the name of God, don't torture me!" Then Jesus commanded the 6,000 demons to come out of the man, and the demons asked Jesus if He could allow them to enter into the pigs that were grazing in the field, and Jesus allowed them. At once, the demons possessed the pigs and led the pigs to the lake and drowned. (Mark 5:1-20).

According to this event, the demons knew Jesus that He was God. Also, we found out that Jesus was more powerful than the demons. We need to remind ourselves that Jesus is more powerful than the evil forces of this world. As a result, we do not fear Satan, demons, and evil forces because Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and our Father live in us. The moment we believe in Jesus, the triune God lives in us, which is why our body becomes God's temple. Someday, God will throw Satan and his demons to hell, and they will be tormented there for eternity. The only thing that Satan can do to us is to tempt us to sin against God and put fear in our hearts that he can destroy us, but he can't do anything to us without God's permission.

With all the evil activities that are going on around us today, let us continue to trust God. We can never be demon-possessed because God lives in us. Satan has to defeat God in us if he wants to possess us, which can never happen because our God is more powerful than Satan and his demons.

Ask yourself these questions: Do I believe Satan and demons are real? Do I believe that God is more powerful than Satan and demons? Can Satan and demons possess me?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for showing me today that you are more powerful than Satan and his demons. Please help me not give in to Satan's temptation to rebel against you and not to listen to his lies. Thank you that I am secure in you. Please help me not to walk in fear, but always walk in confidence in you. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
