JESUS IS OUR PASSOVER LAMB

15 days before Christmas! When Joseph, one of Jacob's sons, became the second ruler of Egypt through God's intervention, Jacob and the rest of his family, 70 in number, moved to Egypt because there was a great famine in the region. Jacob and his family lived in Egypt for 430 years (Exodus 12:40-41). As a result, Jacob and all his sons died in Egypt, but their descendants continued to grow to more than a million, including children, in Egypt. At the end of 430 years, God used Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt by performing ten plagues against the Egyptians. The last plague gave a hint for the coming of our Lord Jesus through the Passover lamb. Exodus 12:23 says, "For the Lord will pass through the land to strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the Lord will pass over your home. He will not permit his death angel to enter your house and strike you down." The lamb that was sacrificed for the blood that was smeared on the doorframe signifies the sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus on the cross. Jesus shed his blood on the cross to wash away our sins (John 1:29).

Our Lord Jesus Christ is our Passover lamb, who saved us from our Heavenly Father's coming judgment through the blood He shed on the cross. This is similar to what the Israelites did in Egypt. They sacrificed a lamb to save them from the death angel. Our Passover lamb was born on Christmas day to save us from our sins and restore our relationship with our God the Father. The Israelites were saved from the angel of death because of the blood of the lamb on their doorframe. Similarly, all of us who believed in Jesus as our Lord and Savior and surrendered our lives to Him have been forgiven of sins because the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross washed away our sins.

In this Christmas season, let us celebrate our Passover Lamb, Jesus, who washed away our sins and restored our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Although Jesus came as a baby on Christmas day, He came to give us the greatest gift of all, and that is His very life.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How did my Lord Jesus wash away my sins? What must I do to be cleansed by the blood of my Lord Jesus? What lesson is God teaching me through today's daily devotion?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for providing me with a Passover Lamb who washes all my sins. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming into this world to save me from my sins through your death and resurrection and give me eternal hope. I praise you and glorify your name. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
