MY GOD IS MY EVER-PRESENT HELP

No matter what is going on in our lives today, we know and believe that God is our ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 says, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Fear and worry are our natural responses when we are in need or having a difficult problem. The things that are going on in politics today may lead us to worry. Price hikes, crime, and relationship challenges can make us worry or even fearful. However, if we anchor ourselves to God and believe that He cares about us, our fear and worry will turn to peace, confidence, and security. Look at what the Psalmist continued to say in Psalm 46:2-3, "So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!" The reason the Psalmist will not fear when disaster strikes is because God is His refuge, strength, and ever-present help in trouble. He believes in his heart that God will take care of Him no matter what happens, even if he loses everything.

Life circumstances can be unpredictable. We do not know what will happen tomorrow. We can plan for tomorrow, but everything that we are depending on in this world can vanish tomorrow. Just recently, there was a massive fire that consumed more than 1 million acres of land in Panhandle, Texas. Many homes have been destroyed and displaced hundreds of people. Earthquakes, flooding, landslides, wars, and violence threaten so many lives all over the world. The only way we can have peace, confidence, and security is when we anchor ourselves to our God. It is like a boat securely anchored in the ocean; no matter how the waves rage, the boat stays secure because the anchor is holding it. In the same manner, no matter what life throws at us, we will not be shaken because we are anchored in our Lord Jesus Christ, who is stronger than anything that we can experience in this world.

So when we are going through tough times, let us look up to our Lord Jesus and trust in Him. He is our refuge, strength, and ever-present help in times of trouble. He cares about us and is always there for us.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you). Where can I find peace and security in this world? Do I trust God? What do I need to do when I am in desperate need?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, you are my refuge, strength, and ever-present help in times of need. No matter what I go through in this world, I know and believe that you will take care of me. Please help me to not fix my eyes on my problem but to fix my eyes on you because you are going to take care of what concerns me today. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
