OUR HELP IN OUR DESPERATE TIME

Psalm 86: 6-10 says, "Hear my prayer, LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me. Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God." The God who created the Heavens and the earth and everything in it is the only God who can help us in times of our needs. There are no other gods out there that can help us. It is only through our Lord Jesus, who died for our sins and rose from the dead, that we can be acceptable before our Heavenly Father. When we are in distress, and we feel that our hope is running out, we can put our trust in our God through our Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit who lives in us will help us to carry on.

A father, determined to attend his daughter's wedding during the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, made a sacrificial journey. His travel was supposed to be only a two-hour drive to the wedding, but as the highway roads were washed away and impassible with vehicles, he was detoured so many times that he finally stopped in one section where he could not drive anymore. The good thing was that he left the night before the wedding. At 2 am, he was still on the road and decided to walk through the mud and debris with his cell phone as his light. His two-hour commute to his destination turned into a seven-hour drive by car and nearly five and a half hours by foot. But all along his journey, God protected and guided him. He was able to get to his daughter's wedding on time and walked his daughter down the aisle after nearly 30 miles through flood and debris. This father's sacrificial love and commitment to his daughter's happiness, even in the face of such adversity, is a powerful reflection of God's love for us.

We are blessed that we know the only true God and that we have a Savior who sacrificially saved us from our sins. So, no matter what we are going through today, let us remember that the God who created the Heavens and the earth is with us and for us.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who can I trust in the midst of my problems? Do I believe that there is only one God who can help me? What should be my attitude in facing my daily problems knowing that God is on my side and is for me?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for helping me in my desperate time. You are well aware of what I am going through, and I pray for wisdom, strength, and peace to handle my problems. Thank you for hearing my prayers. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
