Psalm 91:1-2 says, "Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him." The safest place to be in is the presence of God or to be in the center of His will. There are no evil forces that can defeat us when we are in the center of His will. 1 John 4:4 says, "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." When God's presence is in us, the evil forces flee. James 4:7 says, "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." The number one weapon of Satan and his evil forces is fear. Satan or the evil forces use horror movies or social media to show us that he is very powerful, and it is true that he is more powerful than us, but the Spirit of God who is in us is more powerful than Satan and the evil forces. When Satan and the evil forces win our minds, and we succumb to fear him, he can easily manipulate us and do things that can harm us.
There was a family serving in a country in Asian. The Asian nation where they served suddenly descended into civil war. There was chaos in the city. People were panicking. Some missionaries decided to leave, and others stayed. The family that decided to flee back to the US got into a fatal accident on one of the highways a few weeks after they arrived in the US. The family that fled from a dangerous place died in a car accident on a freeway. The point of this sad story is that wherever we may go or flee, there is no safe place. When it is time for God to take us home, we will go, and there is nothing to stop it. So, we need to pursue God's will in our lives and not operate in fear. When we trust our God in whatever we find ourselves in and do not allow Satan and the evil forces to put fear in our minds and hearts, we can stand in whatever situation we are in because God is going to be with us, giving us peace and confidence. Jesus said, "Don't be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell."
Only God is our eternal refuge. God may allow Satan and evil forces to harm or kill our bodies, but it is ultimately God's will for us to be with Him. When that time comes, we will be safe forever in Heaven, for He is our eternal refuge and strength. Our safety is always in the center of His will.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What is the number one weapon that Satan uses to distract and harm me? How can I overcome fear in my mind? Where is my safest place to be in? Why?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for reminding me today that you are my refuge and fortress. I don't have to live in fear, for you are greater than Satan and his evil forces. You are always beside me and never leave me alone. Please help me not to give in to fear but to obey your will so that I can always be in the center of your will. Please protect my mind from fear and bless me today and the rest of the week. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
