The moment we sincerely believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, we become the children of God (John 1:12). God, with His love, grace, and mercy, adopted us as His children. As a result, we become part of the family of God. Many people do not understand that being created by God does not make them God's children automatically. They are God's creations who are created in His image, but they are not part of the family of God. According to John 1:12, only those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ can be adopted as children of God. It is an honor to become children of God because we do not deserve to become children of God because of our sins. It cost our Lord Jesus Christ with the ultimate sacrifice of His life on the cross to make it possible for Him to adopt us as His own. Our Lord Jesus Christ could have given up on us, but because of His great and sacrificial love for us, He accepted and persevered through the most horrifying punishment in the Roman empire. When He was carrying the cross to where He would be nailed on it, He was thinking about every one of us. We became part of His inspiration in His suffering.
When we doubt our relationship with God, look at the cross. It will remind us of how great God's love is toward us. If God didn't give up on carrying the cross for us, He would never give up on us now. We are God's children, and that is finalized. It is true that we struggle, and sometimes we doubt, but that doesn't change the fact that we are God's sons and daughters. When we realize how much we are privileged to be God's children, we end up praising and thanking God. Psalm 105:1-3 says, "Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord." As children of God, we are now representing our Heavenly Father wherever we are. We should be proud of who we are and not hide our relationship with our Heavenly Father. We must not shy away or be afraid to express that we have a Heavenly Father who loves and cares about us.
Let us thank God for adopting us as His children. Let us not shy away from expressing our relationship with our Heavenly Father, but let us be proud of who we are, for we are His children forever, and nothing can change that.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How can a person become a child of God? What did God do to make it possible for me to be adopted as His child? Am I willing not to shy away or be afraid to express my relationship with my Heavenly Father?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for making it possible for me to be adopted as your child. I was lost in my sin and had no hope of salvation until you reached out to me and touched my heart to believe in you. Thank you for giving me the privilege of becoming your child. Please help me to express my relationship with you openly as my Heavenly Father. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
