Psalm 104:27-30 says, "All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground." There is one truth that can never change in this world: everything in this world depends on God's provision. No matter what people think, whether they believe in God or not, their very existence depends on God's provision and will. After President Trump almost died from the assassination attempt in Butler, PA., his belief in God was solidified. He admitted in the media repeatedly that he is alive today because God gave him another chance to live. President Trump realized that only God could protect him on that day. As a result, he became more open with his belief in God. During Howard Lutnick's swearing-in ceremony as the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Howard identified God as the top four most important aspects of his life. However, when President Trump acknowledged Howard's priorities, he encouraged him to place God first before anything else.
When we have everything we need, and things are going well, we often forget that it is God who makes everything happen. However, when we face death and a life situation, we realize our mortality, no matter how successful we are in life. God is the giver and taker of life. We exist because God allows it. All God's creation is accountable to God. Someday, all human beings will stand before God and give an account of how they live their lives on this earth. Those who reject Jesus as their Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God into judgment, but those who believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior will be with God forever in Heaven. Let us not forget who God is in everything that we do on this earth. We must put God first because nothing can exist apart from Him.
The point of this devotion is to put God first in everything that we do, for we depend on Him for everything. We cannot exist apart from His power. Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Can everything exist apart from God? Can I add a single second to my life apart from God's will? If I completely depended on God's power to exist, how should I live my life?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, all creation depends on your provision. I cannot live a single day apart from your provision. You are the source of everything that I need. Please help me never to forget this so that I can always put you first in everything that I do. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
