The final part of Moses' prayer in Psalm 90 requests God's blessings upon His people. Psalm 90:14 says, "Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." God is the only one who can satisfy the needs of our souls because He created us and knows everything about us. Sadly, the things of this world teach us that we don't need God. We can satisfy ourselves with our own effort. However, we don't have any control over what happens tomorrow. In an instant, we can lose everything that we work for. Everything that we have in this world is all fleeting. Thousands of people were devastated by the two hurricanes that we had this summer: Hurricane Helene and Milton. Many people lost their lives, and there were millions of dollars in property damage. The entire town of Ashville, NC, was completely destroyed by the flooding and landslides. Many people lost everything that they owned. Only God can satisfy us with His unfailing love. No matter what happens in this world, God will satisfy us with His goodness and love. He may allow for our material things of this world to be taken away, but He will always provide everything that we need and give us peace in the midst of calamity because he loves us.
There was a man who had a terminal cancer. He was very successful in business, but everything that he owned and all the money that he had accumulated could never satisfy him in the end. He asked, "How could all my possessions satisfy me if I couldn't enjoy them? I am always in pain and uncomfortable. My soul is weary and I need a Savior." This man worked very hard to earn all his possessions, but at the end of his time, he wasn't satisfied. He eventually believed in Jesus as his Lord and Savior through a Christian friend. When he surrendered his life to Jesus, he found peace and satisfaction in the love and presence of God in his life. He found freedom for his soul in the midst of his pain. God gave him enough time before he died to start a foundation to support many ministries to spread the gospel. Only God can satisfy our souls and give us gladness in the days of our lives. He is the only one who can bless the works of our hands more than what this world can offer.
Moses ended his prayer in Psalm 90:17, "May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands." May we always seek satisfaction from God by walking in His ways and trusting in Him.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who can ultimately satisfy my soul? Why does this world can never fully satisfy me? How do I seek satisfaction from God?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, please satisfy me with your unfailing love today and bless the work of my hands. Please help me to walk in your way and completely trust you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
