THE BOWL OF MANNA IN THE ARK OF THE COVENANT

The Ark of the Covenant contains three items: the bowl of manna, Aaron's rod, and the tablets of the Ten Commandments. The bowl of manna represented God's faithfulness in providing food for the nation of Israel during the 40 years that they were in the wilderness or desert (Exodus 16:35). When the Israelites left Egypt, God guided them to the promised land through Moses' leadership. The Israelites' journey through the wilderness was met with many challenges. There were a million of them, including children, and they did not have good sources of water and food. However, God promised them that He would take care of them, but the Israelites must trust Him every step of the way. All of the Israelites who came out of Egypt were born in Egypt. As a result, Egypt was the only place they were familiar with. But God wanted them to have their own land so that they may worship and serve Him. When the Israelites were in the wilderness, they complained to Moses about not having enough food, so God provided them bread from Heaven, called manna. As God rained down manna from Heaven every day, He instructed the Israelites to gather enough manna each morning to sustain them for the day. On Friday, they had to gather twice as much to support them for both Friday and Saturday, as Saturday was the Sabbath, and they were not allowed to gather manna on that day, as it was a day of rest.

God wanted to remind the High Priest and the people of Israel through the bowl of manna that He was their ultimate and faithful provider. When the Israelites were in the wilderness, they never starved. God even provided Quail meat for food and water from the rock. God is reminding us today that He is our ultimate and faithful provider. God is never late in providing for our needs. We need to appreciate what God has already provided us thus far and not focus so much on what we do not have yet. We have to thank God for every day food and water. We have to show our appreciation to God for providing us shelter. If we make an inventory of everything that God has provided us, we will be surprised at how much God provided our needs. If God provided all the things that we have now, how much more He will provide us for our future needs.

Let us be encouraged today that God is always there to provide for our needs. When we are in doubt, let us look around at how much God has provided for our needs thus far.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Should I worry about my needs today? What does God promise me in regard to my needs? What should I do when I am in doubt about God's providing for my needs?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for being my ultimate and faithful provider for my needs. Please forgive my doubt. Please help me to remember how much you have provided for my needs thus far. I pray for my (mention your specific needs today) that you will provide according to your purpose and will. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
