One day before Christmas! When the angel Gabriel told Mary that she would conceive a son and call him Jesus, Mary asked the angel Gabriel how that could happen since she was a virgin. Gabriel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35). The conception of our Lord Jesus is completely the work of our God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all active in the incarnation of God to become human flesh. Incarnation means God becoming flesh. The moment Jesus became a living fetus inside Mary's womb through the Holy Spirit coming upon her, God the Son became human like us. John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." Many religions could not understand how God could come from Mary, who was a human being. Others could not understand how God could have a Son. One question asks, "Did God had sexual relationship with Mary?" The above questions are the questions that many non-Christians ask during Christmas because Christmas is about when Jesus, the Son of God, was born.
God chose to be conceived in human flesh through Mary because He desires to become a human being like us so that he becomes both God and completely human. Jesus became a perfect mediator between God the Father and human beings because he is both God and human. Jesus' complete nature is God everything else is human, such as his body, mind, and soul. As a result, Jesus was holy when He walked on this earth. Luke 1:35 explains how Jesus was conceived in Mary's womb. The Holy Spirit came upon Mary, and the power of the Most High God overshadowed her. There was no sexual activity that happened in the conception of our Lord Jesus. Mary remained a virgin girl. The Holy Spirit and the power of God came inside Mary's womb; thus, Jesus our Lord was conceived. The Son of God means Jesus came from God; therefore, Jesus is God. The conception of our Lord Jesus is a miracle. We can relate to our Lord Jesus because He was a human being like us. He can relate to our life and sufferings. When Jesus died on the cross, Jesus represented the sins of humanity.
In this Christmas season, we should be thankful that we have a God who can relate to us. We can pour out our problems, sorrows, and weaknesses to our Lord Jesus because He can completely understand us.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How did Jesus was conceived? How should I handle my problems knowing that my Lord Jesus can relate to my struggles? What should be my attitude this Christmas season?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, I praise you for sending your Son, Jesus, as my mediator between you and me. He is God, yet he became a human being to save me. May I always be thankful for this Christmas season for you are always care about me. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
