THE LIGHT OF OUR PATH

Before the flashlights were invented, there were lamps. When I went to Israel to study for three weeks several years ago, I found out that the lamp they were using in Biblical times was made out of clay, and they used olive oil as their fuel. The effective range of light that the lamp could cover was the feet of a person. So when a person was using a lamp, he could only see what he was walking on. The Word of God is also working similarly for us today. God uses our Bible to help us see where we are walking so that we will not fall into Satan's lies and deceptions. In our world today, it seems very difficult to know what is right and wrong. When we watch the news, especially on what is going on in politics, it isn't easy to know which party is telling the truth. Social media is littered with ideas that take out or minimize God in our society. So how can we protect ourselves and our families from lies and deceptions? The only way is to know the Word of God.

The flashlight was invented in 1899 by David Misell. It used three D batteries. The flashlight is strong enough to light the path or the trail that we are walking on. We can see the obstacles several feet away so we can plan ahead of time to avoid them. In the same way, the Word of God can warn us of the lies and deceptions of Satan ahead of time. One of the common lies of Satan is to make us believe that we do not need God for our future because we can make our own destiny with our own power, strength, and wisdom. The truth of the matter is that we do not know what tomorrow holds. We do not know if we will live or die tomorrow. The truth is that we have hope in God because God has our future in His hands. As we trust in God daily, we will not lose hope because God will take care of us no matter what happens all around us.

It is very important for us believers to know the Word of God or our Bible. Today, our society is trying to take God out of our lives by promoting unbiblical ways in marriage, self-identity, sexual orientation, race, and education. We need the Word of God to light our feet and our path that we may walk on the right path.

Ask yourself these questions: Why is it crucial for us to know the Word of God? How can I know the Word of God? Am I willing to make a plan to read the Word of God daily?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, thank you for giving me a Bible. Please help me to read it daily that I may get to know you and your ways. Please protect my mind from Satan's lies and deceptions. Would you please give me the strong desire to read your Word and make plans to do it. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
