THE TABLE OF SHOWBREAD OF THE TABERNACLE

The Table of Showbread was across the Golden Lampstand inside the Holy Place in the Tabernacle (Exodus 25:23-30). There were two rows of six pieces of bread on the Table of Showbread. The six pieces of bread were not placed on the Table of Showbread so that God could eat them, but it was there to remind the nation of Israel that He was their provider. Many religions in this world offer sacrifices of food to their gods so that their gods can eat them; however, the God of Israel does not need our food. The priests replaced the six loaves of bread every Saturday during the Sabbath, and they consumed the bread in the Holy Place (Leviticus 24:5-9). God reminded the nation of Israel that just as He provided manna from Heaven when they were in the desert, He was going to continue to provide for everything they needed. When Jesus came to this world, He said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty (John 6:35)." Jesus was referring to spiritual food when he said that He was the bread of life. Jesus said these words when Satan tempted him to turn the rock into bread, "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4)."

Jesus was both the provider of our physical and spiritual food. He does not only provide food for our bodies every day, but He speaks to us through His Word every day to feed us spiritually. The six pieces of bread on the Table of Showbread show that God is the provider of the physical and spiritual food that His people need. Our Lord Jesus ultimately came to replace the six pieces of bread on the Table of Showbread. God is reminding us today that He is our provider. He provides everything that we need. We need to be encouraged today that God never changes. He always provides everything we need, just as He has been providing in the past. So, no matter our needs today, let us lift them up to God in our prayers and have faith that God will meet our needs according to His purpose and plan in our lives.

God knows our needs. We need to believe in our Lord Jesus that He can provide for everything that we need. Jesus said these words in Matthew 7:7-8, "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened."

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What is the importance of the six pieces of bread on the Table of Showbread? Who is my ultimate provider for my physical and spiritual needs? What is Jesus encouraging me to do in Matthew 7:7-8?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, I acknowledge that my Lord Jesus is my Bread of Life. He provides for my physical and spiritual needs. I lift up the following needs to you: (mention the list of your needs). Thank you for answering my prayer. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
