As Jesus got closer to His death, He took Peter, James, and John and brought them up to a high mountain by themselves. When they arrived there, Jesus was transfigured before them. Transfigured means Jesus' appearance changed to His glorified heavenly body. According to Matthew, Jesus' face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light (Matthew 17:2). Then, while He was transfigured, Elijah, who was one of the prophets in the Old Testament, and Moses, who led the Israelite from the slavery in Egypt and was given the Law, appeared to them and talked with Jesus. Then Peter offered to build a tent for Jesus, Elijah, and Moses, for he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. A bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud, which was the voice of the Heavenly Father, said, "This is my beloved Son, listen to Him!" When Peter, James, and John heard the voice, they were terrified, but suddenly everything went back to normal, and they saw Jesus alone (Mark 9:2-8).
The importance of Jesus' transfiguration was to confirm that Jesus was the Savior or the Messiah that would fulfill the prophecies in the Old Testament to save the world from sin, and He was the one who was going to fulfill the Law of Moses on behalf of those who would believe in Him. Jesus told His disciples not to tell anyone what they had seen until He was resurrected from the dead. Jesus wanted them to testify then that He was the Messiah because they had seen Jesus' glorified appearance. Let us be encouraged today that Jesus was our legitimate and ultimate Savior. He was the only one who could fulfill all the prophecies in the Old Testament and fulfill the Law for us. There is no other Savior like our Lord Jesus. There are thousands of religions out there, but only Jesus can save us from our sins. He is the only Savior that can die for our sins and fulfill the Law for us.
When we are in doubt or worried about life's challenges, let us look up and trust in Jesus, for He is our Savior. He came to save us and give us eternal hope and life.
Ask yourself these questions: What does transfiguration mean? What is the importance of His transfiguration? Since Jesus is my ultimate Savior, how does that affect me today?
Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you for giving me eternal hope through Jesus, my ultimate Savior. Please help me to overcome my doubt and worries by trusting in Jesus. No matter what happens in this world, you will be with me and care for me. Please help me to continue to walk in faith. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
