When we walk with God daily, there is nothing to fear because we are not alone. The God of the universe, who is mightier than any forces of this world, is by our side, watching over us. David wrote the following verse when he was surrounded by the threat of his enemies, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me (Psalm 23:4)." The reason David could say that he does not fear any evil things that could happen to Him was because He was walking with God. David was not trusting in his own strength and wisdom, but he was completely dependent on God. He was trusting on the rod and staff of God. The rod is a wood that is used by the shepherd to hit anything that threatens his sheep. The rod is used for protection. The shepherd uses the staff to guide his sheep to the right path. On one of the ends of the shepherd's staff is a hook. The shepherd uses it to hook the kneck of the sheep if it wanders to the wrong path. David was not walking in fear because he was walking under the protection and guidance of the almighty God. No matter what comes his way, God will take care of him.
We want protection and guidance from our God, but we can only have them when we walk with Him daily. The moment we disregard God in our situation because we want to please our friends and coworkers more than God, we are no longer walking with God. The moment we start behaving like an unbeliever in the way we talk and treat others, we are no longer walking with God. When we love money, material things in this world, and ungodly relationships more than God, we are no longer walking with God. When we are not walking with God daily, we are like a sheep that is ready to be devoured by a lion or a bear. Satan is always looking for an opportunity to destroy us. His deceptions and lies can easily deceive us. There are so many times I have seen believers who decided not to walk with God and do their own thing; as a result, they made wrong decisions that affected their lives and brought regret in their lives. Only God can protect us from Satan's deceptions and guide us to the right path.
Walking with God means we are walking with our faith in God and obeying Him. It means we are always relying on His strength and wisdom. Every time we do or plan something, we ask God for guidance and strength. If we know that what we are about to do is not pleasing to God, we need to stop and change directions. God is always in the front of our hearts and minds to please Him above everything else.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What does walking with God mean? What are the consequences if I am not walking with God daily? Am I walking with God daily?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, I trust in your rod to protect me and your staff to guide me. Please help me to walk with you daily. You are the only one who can protect me from Satan's lies. Please help me not to walk away from you but to keep me close to you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
