If we rely on God for our physical needs, salvation, and spiritual growth, then we must also rely on God for our future. God's power affects every area of our lives. Revelation 4:11 says, "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being." When God created us, He intended for us to rely on Him in every aspect of our lives because our entire being can only exist through His absolute power and will. We breathe because He wills it. We have food to eat, water to drink, shelter to live in, air to breathe, and jobs to support us financially; we have health that allows us to function, all because God provides these essentials to sustain us. Moreover, our salvation is a gift through faith in our Lord Jesus. Our spiritual growth depends on the work of the Holy Spirit in us. We can trust God in every aspect of our lives as He intended. If this is the case, then we can absolutely trust God with our future. He determines the destiny of our souls when we die. Those who genuinely believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior will go to Heaven, but those who refuse to believe in the Lord Jesus will go to Hell for eternity.
If we trust God with our future, we must surrender our dreams and future plans to God because He knows our future. He knows what we will be five, ten, twenty years from now. Jesus said these words to His disciples, "And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows (Luke 12:7). What Jesus was saying is that He knows everything about us, including our future, so let us not be afraid. He has everything under control. Trusting God with our future does not mean we should stop planning for it. Instead, it means we should make our plans while surrendering them to God and trusting Him with the outcome. By trusting God with the outcome of our plans, we are willing to accept God's ultimate plan in our lives. There are times when our future plans may differ from God's plan, so we must align our plans with His will. When our plans fail, it is not the end because God may be guiding us toward His purpose for us.
The world's conditions and ways are very unpredictable. We will never know what will happen tomorrow, especially in the economy. However, we can rely on God for our future because He intended us to rely on Him for our daily physical and spiritual needs.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Do I believe that God knows my future? Do I completely trust God with my future? If yes, why do I worry?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, I praise you and honor your name because you know my future. I do not need to worry about it because you will take care of me. I surrender my future plans to you because you know what is best for me. Please help me never ignore you in my life, but help me walk with you daily by following and trusting you. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
