God saved us from our sins because He knows that there is no life in sin. No matter how attractive sin is to our sinful flesh, it only produces death and destruction. Isaiah 48:22 says," 'There is no peace,' says the LORD, 'for the wicked.'" Peace, true Joy, or lasting happiness can only be attained through the new life that God has given us, which is based on His righteousness. The more we obey God, the more we will experience inner peace, despite the challenges we face in life. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life (John 8:12)." Darkness refers to a sinful lifestyle. Jesus encourages us that we don't have to live in sin, but to live in His light, which brings vibrant life into us. Living in the light of our Lord Jesus means walking in His ways and trusting Him. We cannot live in the light if we are not willing to let go of the sins of this world. We cannot live a double life. We are either walking in the light or walking in darkness.
Our Lord Jesus sacrificed His own life to save us from darkness and to bring us to His light. So, having the opportunity to live in His light is a privilege that we cannot take for granted. We have hope and eternal life that can never be taken away from us. Despite the unpredictability of life, the Spirit of God comforts, guides, and gives us the courage to continue moving forward. We can stand in the midst of trials because our foundation is our Lord Jesus. He is the one who is holding us together. People who live in darkness do not have the assurance that we have. When their world crumbles, they have no one to lean on. As a result, it leads them to hopelessness and despair. The only way to live is to live in the light of our Lord Jesus. Let us pursue God with all of our hearts. Let us continue to trust Him and do what is right in His sight.
Let us not take for granted this new life that God has given us. Let us cherish it by walking in the light of our Lord Jesus. God saved us from our sins for so much more.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What is the benefit of being saved from my sins? How should I cherish my salvation? How important is it for God to save me?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for saving me and bringing me out of darkness into light. Please help me appreciate my salvation by living in obedience and placing my trust in you in every situation. I pray that you will continue to change my heart and renew my mind that I may walk in your ways. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
